A new elastoviscoplastic model based on the Herschel-Bulkley viscoplastic model

چکیده
The aim of this paper is to introduce a new three-dimensional elastoviscoplastic model that combines both the Oldroyd viscoelastic model and the Herschel-Bulkley viscoplastic model with a power-law index n > 0. The present model is derived to satisfy the second law of thermodynamics. Various fluids of practical interest, such as liquid foams, droplet emulsions or blood, present such elastoviscoplastic behavior: at low stress, the material behaves as a viscoelastic solid, whereas at stresses above a yield stress, the material behaves as a fluid. When n = 1, a recently introduced elastoviscoplastic model proposed by the author is obtained. When 0 < n < 1, then the plasticity criteria becomes smooth, the elongational viscosity is always well defined and the shear viscosity shows a shear thinning behavior. This is a major improvement to the previous elastoviscoplastic model. Finally, when n > 1, the material exhibits the unusual shear thickening behavior.

A Numerical Method for the Simulation of Free Surface Flows of Viscoplastic Fluid in 3d
In this paper we study a numerical method for the simulation of free surface flows of viscoplastic (Herschel-Bulkley) fluids. The approach is based on the level set method for capturing the free surface evolution and on locally refined and dynamically adapted octree cartesian staggered grids for the discretization of fluid and level set equations. A regularized model is applied to handle the no...

The purpose of this study is to develop a mathematical model for studying the magnetic field effect on blood flow through an axially non-symmetric but radially symmetric atherosclerotic artery. Herschel-Bulkley equation has been taken to represent the non-Newtonian character of blood. The response of magnetic field, stenosis height, shape parameter on velocity, volumetric flow rate in stenotic ...

In this study, predictive capabilities of apparent viscosity of oil-based drilling fluids which is used in National Iranian South Oilfields Company (NISOC) were evaluated using Newtonian and non-Newtonian models to drive a new suitable equation. The non-Newtonian models include Bingham plastic, Power law, Herschel-Bulkley, Casson, and Robertson-Stiff. To validate the results, the calculated vis...

We are interested in the derivation of an integrated Herschel-Bulkley model for shallow flows, as well as in the design of a numerical algorithm to solve the resulting equations. The goal is to simulate the evolution of thin sheet of viscoplastic materials on inclined planes and, in particular, to be able to compute the evolution from dynamic to stationary states. The model involves a variation...
